ABOUT US
Chief Peguis Middle School is part of River East Transcona School Division.
We engage in learning on Treaty One Territory, the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anishininiwak, Dakota and Dene peoples and on the homeland of the Red River Métis. We recognize our part in the Treaty relationship and, as acknowledgment of the harms done, we commit to collaborating with Indigenous communities in the shared spirit of Truth and Reconciliation for the healing and inclusion of all who share this land.
Hello! Boozoo, §£?§ä§Ñ?§Þ§à, Willkommen! Approximately 520 students attend Chief Peguis Middle School. Our school is named for Chief Peguis, the respected Anishinaabe leader and an original signer of Treaty One. Treaty One is the first numbered treaty in our nation’s history and helped shape Canada’s westward expansion. He was known for his wisdom, courage and commitment to peace. He shaped early relationships between Indigenous people and settlers. Through his guidance and teaching, newcomers learned to live on this land. He worked to create positive relationships between all people, led with fairness and respect while advocating for the well-being of his community. He worked tirelessly to protect his people’s rights, support education and encourage peaceful solutions during times of great change. His leadership and lasting contributions inspire respect, kindness and the setting of goals for a good life. We work within the principles of Mamahtawisin, the policy framework developed by the provincial government of Manitoba for all students. You can find this document here:
We are committed to supporting our learners in accordance with the èßäAV Middle Years Philosophy that identifies and celebrates the unique qualities and learning needs of students at this age level. èßäAV Middle Years Philosophy can be found here:
Chief Peguis Wolves experience middle years life through academics, music, art, drama, technical education and outdoor education. Chief Peguis also offers two bilingual language programs. Students enrolled in the German or Ukrainian programs experience 50% of their ELA and social studies classes in the heritage language course of their choice. These courses of study are available to students who have taken German or Ukrainian during their early years of learning. Technology is leveraged daily to research, create and extend the exploration of learning. Digital citizenship and responsibility are always a central focus as students learn to navigate the online world.
Opportunities for leadership and volunteerism within the school are available at all grade levels and supported by teaching staff. Competitive sports and intramurals keep us active throughout the year along with a variety of clubs. Our diverse community sees itself represented throughout the school as we embrace the philosophy of Celebrate Everything, examining different cultures and events throughout the year, as a school community. Student identity is recognized and celebrated through our GSA under the direction of our guidance counsellor and teachers. The Maamawi Indigenous student group meets weekly, and smudging is also available at regular intervals and when requested. Chief Peguis Middle School strives to create a safe, caring, and inclusive community for all students.
